Platina is a well known remedy, especially with respect to haughtiness, dictatorial behaviour and sexuality. But the Group analysis will bring out some more aspects: their sense of responsibility, their religious feelings and their sense of failure (Julian 1979, 1981).

Signature

The name is derived from the Spanish word plata, meaning small silver. It was discovered in the 16th century and its chemical symbol is Pt.

Platina is very hard, unyielding and corrosion resistant. It only reacts with Fluorine. It is used in weights and measures, in electronic gadgets, precision instruments and laboratory beakers.

It is is also used as a catalyst in many chemical reactions, amongst others in the catalyst converters of car exhausts.

Essence: the ultimate power: emperor.

A natural leader

These are the natural leaders. The radiate self confidence and they know they are going to get the organisation up and running.

Their authority attracts other people and they become the centre of the group without being questioned. They have no problem taking on the sole responsibility of a large organisation.

Success through taking responsibility

They are good leaders and they know how to steer the organisation in the right direction. When they are in charge the business flourishes. The are the noble king whose reign brings prosperity to all his people. The are at the top of their leadership career and they exude a natural authority.

The Taj Mahal is a good example of Platina. Its blinding beauty leaves you in awe of the sheer perfection of such a building with all that marble and all those jewels. It was built by 20.000 labourers over a period of 20 years during the reign of one of the great moguls.

The arrogance of power

But success can be the cause of arrogance and these people can become the ultimate example of haughtiness. The have reached the top and they are head and shoulders above the ordinary people in every sense of the word. They may become very disdainful of all lesser mortals.

There are several rubrics in the Complete repertory (Zandvoort) that indicate this state of being: they have the delusion of being taller or bigger, delusion that others are mentally much inferior, that all objects are much smaller, that passages are too narrow, that their legs are very long.

The ultimate dictator

They can also be very dictatorial. They no longer feel that they are the humble leader, instead they imagine they are the almighty representative of God Himself. They have no qualms about handing out a death sentence wherever necessary. They become more and more obsessed about trifles, everything has to be done exactly according to their wishes. If one of his minors wants to do it differently they get furious because it offends their pride as a king. Thus their organisation tends to become more and more rigid. But at least that way they wont have to keep telling people how it should be done and the organisation will more or less run itself.

It is lonely at the top

Because they are far above the ordinary crowd they gradually lose contact with the normal world. They become estranged from other people, even their parents are considered to be rather inferior, he doesnt really want to be associated with them anymore.

Offended when they can’t shine

They have to be honoured and respected at all times. They can feel terribly offended when their minors don’t treat them with due respect. It is an offence that carries the death sentence. They wont lose sleep over sending someone to the gallows or insulting behaviour.

The summit of sexuality

Sexuality plays an important role in their life. The continuous sexual arousal of Platina is well known. It reminds us of a king and his harem. He deserves to have many wives and even more children.

But they may also show the other side of the coin: sexual frustration or frigidity. One example is the problem of vaginismus. One of the reasons why they make reject any form of sexual contact is that they feel too superior to make contact with an ordinary mortal, let alone go to bed with them. Another reason why they might not want to have sexual contact is that they feel they have failed in their leadership. They haven’t been able to manifest their royal power, so they can;t have a royal harem or a wife.

Sexuality is very important to them because it is just about the only way in which they can make contact with ordinary human beings. Analogous to this theme is the fact that Platina only reacts with Fluorine, where Fluorine stands for sexuality.

In the Complete repertory we find many rubrics related to this theme: adulterous, ailments from, excitement, celibacy, being unmarried, amativeness, ailments form sexual excesses, ailments from sexual excitement, amorous disposition, dreams, amorous, dreams, lewd, lascivious, delirium, erotic.

Being the focus of religious power

Religious feelings also play a large role. They feel intimately connected to their religious power and consider themselves a representative and executor of Gods plans. In the Complete repertory we see: anxiety; salvation, about, hell, of, delusion, devils; possessed of, delusions, religious, despair, religious, godless, want of religious feeling.

Failure through rigid power

They don’t often fail, because they have an inborn aptitude or leadership. The people around them sense this natural power they exude. But their dictatorial behaviour may cause these people to turn against him. Their greatest pitfall is rigidity. They have become so isolated and far removed from the reality of ordinary people that they don’t realise when change is needed.

Or they might feel superior but are unable to make it come true.

Strange how other people don’t realise how great they are!. Their outer weakness is compensated by inner illusions of grandeur, by murderous impulses or by sexual fantasies.

Expressions

Fears: heights, falling, future, murder, being murdered, death, suicide, heart disease, stroke, insanity, people, crowds, religion, devil, God, blood, giving birth, being hanged, strangled, pointed objects, conscience, ghosts.

Dreams: heights, falling, erotic, coition, lascivious, battles, competitions, fights, quarrels, war, business, dead people, foreign countries, death, troubles, embarrassment, fire, offence.

Delusions: superior, alone, noble, proud, being under supernatural powers, talking with spirits, being superior, tall, swollen, rich, others being small, everything is too narrow, alone in the world, abandoned, well known places seem strange, people are devils, possessed by a devil, devilish, black people and object, doomed, cut in half, gruesome, fire, war, death, dead people.

Irritability: quarrelsome, angry malicious, cruel, hatred, furious, (

SPHERE OF ACTION
Through the cerebro-spinal system, it especially acts upon the generative organs of women, and on the spinal cord.
GRAND CHARACTERISTICS.
Very nervous spasmodic temperaments. Hysteria, with much depression of spirits. Melancholia, in females with uterine diseases. Much anguish; she feels as if she would lose her senses and die soon. Anxiety, weeping, palpitation of the heart, with a numb feeling in the malar bones, as if the parts were between screws.- -RAUE. Self exaltation and contempt for others. The physical symptoms disappear, and the mental symptoms appear, and viceversa. Past events trouble her. On entering a room after a walk everything looks small; she feels large and looks down upon them.–DOUGLAS. Sexual Organs of Women.–Excessive sexual desire, particularly in virgin females. Voluptuous tingling in the vulva, and abdomen, with depression of spirits, anxiety, and palpitation of the heart. Mons veneris cold and excessively sensitive to the touch, cannot bear the napkins usually applied. Labor-pains are suspended by the very painful sensitiveness of the vagina, and external genital organs; the pains are spasmodic and excessively painful. Menses in excess; blood dark and thick, with chilliness and sensitiveness of the vulva. Metrorrhagia, discharge of thick, black blood. Metrorrhagia, with sensation as if the body was growing larger every day. Great bearing down to the genitals, with profuse menstruation. Amenorrhoea, with painful pressure, as if the menses would appear, with pain in the small of the back. Much threatening of the menses to come on. Ovaritis; the pain in the region of the ovary is of a burning character, occurring in paroxysms, with stitches in the forehead, and excessive sexual desire. Indurations of the uterus. Albuminous leucorrhoea, only in the day time, with great sensitiveness of the vagina. Digestive Organs.–Stool exceedingly difficult; it adheres to the rectum and anus like soft clay. This is a prominent key for Platina. Feeling of numbness, with trembling and palpitation of the heart. Hysterical cough, from stifling behind the upper fourth of the sternum. Old syphilitic and sycosic affections. This remedy is especially useful in very sensitive women, with disease of the sexual organs, complicated with many hysterical symptoms.

Pride and over estimation of one’s self; looking down on others; things look small to her.

Genitals exceedingly sensitive, but excessive sexual desire; nymphomania, with ovarian troubles; prolapsus or profuse menses.

Pains increase gradually and as gradually decrease (STANN.); sometimes attended with numbness (CHAM.,)

This remedy may be studied in three relations:in its relation to the mental, nervous and sexual systems. It has curious mental symptoms. Here are three of them : “Pride and over estimation of one’s self; looking down with haughtiness on others.” “Illusion of fancy, on entering the house after walking an hour, as if everything about her were very small, and all persons mentally and physically inferior, but she herself superior.” “Changing moods, gay and sad alternately.” This last symptom is like IGNATIA., CROCUS., NUX-M., and ACON., 7 PLAT., has another symptom like ACON., -“Fear of death.” Now the first two symptoms above mentioned might appear to some as of no value in the treatment of the sick. There is no pathological explanation for them beyond the fact of a generally disordered mind, which might take any other form of hallucination. But this is a valuable indication and found under no remedy , I was led by it to prescribe the remedy in a very obstinate case of insanity which had resist the skill of several allopathic physicians of note, and they had finally decided that the case must be sent to the insane asylum. The parents, however, who were quiet wealthy, could not consent to that, and were induced to try homoeopathy., I gave her PLAT., on the strength of this mental symptom, which was very prominent, coupled with other symptom, which also appears in this remedy, viz., ” physical symptoms disappear and mental symptoms appear, ” and VICE VERSA. The physical symptom was a pain the whole length of the spine. This was the symptom alternating with the mental one. It was one of the most brilliant cures I ever saw. Improvement began the first day and never flagged, and she remained well now 15 years, with never a sign of return.

The nervous symptoms outside the brain calling for PLAT., are : “The pains INCREASE GRADUALLY and AS GRADUALLY DECREASE.” ” The pains are attended with numbness of the parts.” This first symptom you will remember is like STANN., but the PLAT., patient is not characteristically so weak as the STANN., The second one is like CHAM., but the PLAT., patient is not so unvaryingly ugly as the CHAM., one. Both are great mental remedies, however , and if any question arises (as there may ) a close study of them in their entirety may be necessary.

In regard to the gradual onset of the pains of PLAT., and STANN., BELL., has exactly the opposite: but BELL., more resembles the PLAT., in its brain symptoms.

Sexual organs. “Nymphomania worse in the lying-in; tingling or titillation up into the abdomen.” “Excessive sexual desire, especially in virgins; premature or excessive development of sexual instinct.” “Genitals excessively sensitive; cannot bear to be touched; will almost go into spasm from an examination, and almost faint during intercourse.” “Metrorrhagia or profuse menses; blood black and clotted.”

Ovarian troubles and prolapsus with the profuse menses and excessive sensitiveness of the genitals to touch or coition. All these are very strong indications for this remedy. All these symptoms, mental, nervous, spasmodic, sexual, etc., would indicate that PLAT., ought to be a good remedy for that protean malady, hysteria and so so abundant experience has proven it to be. Here again I have preparation of the drug most potent for good, though in a case of insanity I used the 6th, not having it high at that time.

PLAT., has a form of constipation similar to ALUM., I.E. THE STOOLS ADHERE TO THE ANUS LIKE SOFT CLAY.
