Characteristics
Similar to snake poisons generally; like all other snake poisons it disorganises the blood. Has very marked black discharges; esp. hemorrhages. Cold things disagree. Desire for sweetened buttermilk. Nausea and vomiting. Prostrating diarrhoea of consumption. Acidity of stomach, and faint feeling. Sudden pain in stomach. Spasm of oesophagus; pharynx constricted; food and liquids suddenly arrested, and then fall heavily into stomach. Spasms followed by paresis. Cold feeling in stomach. Fruits and ice water lie very cold. Right-sided paralysis; right side feels weak, insensible or paralysed. Must have oscillatory motion. Rheumatic constitutions. Ear, nose and throat symptoms important. Sensation of internal coldness in chest, stomach, aggravated after cold drinks. Mucous membranes wrinkled. As of a heavy load or weight on the affected part. Twisting sensation. Faints, with vomiting or on stooping.
Mind
Depressed; imagines he hears someone talking; dreads to be left alone; = chattering of the teeth and trembling. Fear of rain. Can speak, but cannot understand speech. Fears apoplexy. Shuddering from least contradiction, and pricking. Angry about oneself, doesn’t wish to be spoken to. Absorbed, buried in thoughts in daytime. Delusion he is being beaten; is falling forward; is being injured. Playful, desires to play in the grass. Aversion to company, avoids the sight of people, wants to get into the country away from people. Hysteria; before menses. Desire to strike. Taciturn during menses. Desire to travel.
Vertigo
Vertigo and tendency to fall forward.
Head
Violent headache, forehead k occiput; first one eye, then the other. Weight and pain in forehead. Fullness in head. Rushes of blood to the head; all the blood seems as if it collected in the head.
Eyes
Aversion to light; letters run together when reading. Veil before eyes. Burning in lids. Bloated around the eyes in the morning. Large red fiery spots before eyes. Black rings before eyes (L).
Ears
Pain in ears. Cerumen black and hard, and difficult hearing, or serous greenish discharge, offensive; buzzing, and illusion of hearing. Sudden attack of nightly deafness, and roaring and crackling in ears, cracking in ears on swallowing. Intolerable itching in ear.
Nose
Chronic nasal catarrh, and fetid odour and greenish crusts. Ozaena; yellowish-green discharge. Mucous membrane wrinkled; nostrils plugged up with dry mucus. Pains from nose k ears on swallowing. Nostrils stopped up. Nasal bleeding; black like ink; after a blow. Pain at root of nose; k ears, on swallowing. Eruption about nose. Nasopharynx stuffed up.
Face
Red spots on face. Bloated. Dull yellowish colour.
Throat
Thick, very offensive, dry, greenish-yellow crusts upon the posterior pharyngeal wall and extremely foul breath. Spasmodic contraction of oesophagus (and pharynx); passage of fluids arrested; food and liquids are suddenly arrested and then fall heavily into the stomach. Sensation of a sponge in oesophagus. Painful, difficult swallowing for solids and liquids. Paralysis of oesophagus. Fluids roll audibly into the stomach.
Stomach
Feels cold; drinks and fruit feel like ice in stomach, and cause coldness in chest. Sensation as if food turned like a corkscrew on swallowing; desire for sweetened buttermilk. Acidity after every mouthful. Thirst. Desire for ice; milk; sweets; whipping-cream; salads; buttermilk. Aversion to meat; bananas. Pain in stomach } lying on abdomen; } while walking; aggravated sitting.
Abdomen
Bowels feels twisted in a knot.
Rectum
Stools of black frothy blood. Choleraic diarrhoea, copious liquid stools, watery, frothy, or of an olive green colour.
Female
Dysmenorrhoea, with black blood. Discharge of black blood between menses. Itching of vulva and vagina. Sensation as if something burst in the womb, then continuous stream of dark coloured blood, } when urinating.
Respiratory
Cough and terrible pain through lungs; aggravated right lung, and expectoration of black blood. Air hunger.
Chest
Coldness in chest after drinking. Hemorrhage from lungs black as ink and watery; stitches in apex of right lung. Oppression on going upstairs. Itching eruption in axillae. Lungs feel forcibly separated.
Extremities
Icy cold feet. Vesicular eruptions on feet. Arms and hands swollen and bluish. Knee-joints feel sprained. Pricking under the nails. Peeling off of skin from palms and fingers (fingertips). Arms weak.
Sleep
Dreams about dead persons; business. Bites hand during sleep.
Fever
Cold perspiration all over. Typhoid when ulcers have eaten into tissues, and black blood is discharged. Skin hot, dry; but complains of feeling cold.
Skin
Glands and skin of axillae affected; itching and tetter. Tips of fingers peel off.
Modalities.
Worse: Approach of storms. Cold; drinks; food; air. Dampness. Night. In room. Touch. Warmth of bed. Fruits. Better: Rest. Walking (} nosebleed and pain in abdomen and chest).
Lying on abdomen } pain in stomach. Many symptoms are aggravated at night.
