Govt likely to allocate Rs 10.7 billion to AYUSH Department
The Indian government has proposed to allocate funds worth Rs 10.7 billion to the Department of AYUSH. “Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) are being mainstreamed through the National Health Mission. I propose to allocate Rs 1,069 crore (Rs 10.7 billion) to the Department of AYUSH,” The Finance Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram said in his Union Budget 2013-14 speech presented in Parliament. The main export products under AYUSH include drugs and medicaments of ayurvAedic, homoeopathic and bio-chemical system. AYUSH offers services in the Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres and district hospitals pan-India.
India exports AYUSH and herbal products to countries including Philippines, Kenya, Mauritania, Russia, USA, Kazakhstan, UAE, Nepal, Ukraine and Japan. Moreover, to lower the valuation disputes with regard to branded drugs of AYUSH and bio-chemic systems of medicine, the government proposes to use the MRP (maximum retail price) based assessment, Mr. Chidambaram said. The Government will provide an abatement of 35% for such branded medicines, he added. Schwabe India has been exporting its products to the neighbouring countries. The export business of Schwabe India has seen a considerable growth since last few years.
